v2.97.4 — See who’s reading, choose who sees you, and save what you love

Tap a count on any poem to see who cheered, encored, reposted and quoted it, and choose separately who sees each kind of thing you do. Save poems privately, cheer the poets you love, fill reading lists with episodes and live replays, and read poems in your own language. Your monthly Encores now depend on your plan.

WebMobileAPIModeration

Our biggest release yet. It's about the people behind the reactions, and your control over what others see.

See who's reading

Tap a count on any poem to see who cheered, encored, reposted and quoted it. Feed cards show a few faces of the people who responded.

  • Privacy respected — readers who keep their activity private are counted but not named (“and N others who chose not to be listed”). The counts are the same for everyone.
  • Never named — who saved or shared a poem is never shown, to anyone.
  • Tomatoes — only the poet can see who threw a tomato, and only on Pro.
  • Your call — turn interaction lists off for any poem. You'll still see them yourself.

Cheer poets, react to lists and episodes

  • Cheer a poet — show a poet some love from their profile. Poets take Cheers only, and you can't cheer yourself.
  • Lists and episodes — react to reading lists and podcast episodes. Lists take Cheers and Tomatoes but not Encores, which are for works.
  • Save or share a poet — from their profile.
  • Notifications — you'll hear when someone reacts to your lists or cheers your profile.

Save poems privately

  • Save — it's the first item in a poem's ⋯ menu, directly above “Add to a list…”.
  • The ribbon — a saved poem shows a filled ribbon. Tap it to unsave.
  • Saved view — everything you've saved, poems and poets, in one place.
  • Only you — nobody can see what you've saved. A poet sees how many times a poem was saved, never by whom.

Who sees what you do

Settings › Privacy › “Who sees what you do” lets you choose separately who sees your reactions, your replies, your curation (reposts, quotes and lists) and your follows.

  • Set all four — one control sets everything at once.
  • Keep my tomatoes to myself — leave your name off a poet's tomato list. A tomato never appears in anyone else's feed.
  • What others see — preview exactly how your activity looks to a stranger, a follower or a friend.

Richer reading lists

  • More to collect — lists can now hold replies, podcast episodes, live performances and other lists.
  • Play inline — episodes and live replays play right inside the list.
  • Your consent — decide whether others may add your work to their lists, with an account default in Settings › Privacy and a switch on each piece.

Encores by plan

Encore is still the scarce one, but your monthly allowance now depends on your plan.

  • Free and Plus — 8 Encores a month, up from 5.
  • Pro — 15 a month.
  • Organizations — 15 a month for each profile on the paid organizations plan.
  • Extra Encores — Stanza staff can grant additional Encores. Your remaining budget is shown on the Encore button.

Read in your language

Translate a poem into your own language on demand. Translations are kept, so the next reader gets them instantly.

Notifications, organised by attention

  • Grouped by urgency — on Android, notifications are grouped by how much attention they need, so you can quiet one kind without muting the rest. Encores have their own group, and iOS gets matching interruption levels.
  • Announcements — Stanza announcements can arrive as push and in-app notifications. You can fold or filter them on the Alerts screen, but important legal and safety notices always stay visible.
  • Live banners and surveys — in-app banners, and the occasional short survey that's never asked more than twice.

Getting around

  • A new More sheet — plus a desktop sidebar, with places you can pin.
  • Jump to… — press Ctrl/Cmd+K to jump to any place, setting, poem or poet.
  • Live now — Library › Live shows how many performances are live.

Also new

  • Gift a poet — a confection can now wrap a poet: “you should read this poet”.
  • New badges — for margin notes, correspondence, sounds and poetic elements.
  • Video on Windows — the Windows app now plays video.

Settings that now do what they say

Several privacy settings were saved but didn't change anything.

  • Before — activity visibility, the default visibility for new poems and lists, and some other privacy settings had no effect.
  • After — they apply everywhere. New poems and lists default to the visibility you choose: Public, Followers, Friends or Private.
  • Marketing email — a clear switch under Settings › Privacy › Your Privacy Choices › Email from Stanza. It's off unless you opt in, and members under 18 can't opt in.

Fixes

The Stage could crash when you left it.

  • Before — leaving the Stage after a long read could crash the app.
  • After — it closes cleanly.

Confections gifted during a live stream weren't saved.

  • Before — a gift sent during a stream could be lost.
  • After — it's saved.

Organization analytics missed reactions.

  • Before — organization analytics showed no cheers, encores or tomatoes.
  • After — they're counted again, and analytics show real views, impressions and reading time.

Reliability, security & accessibility

  • Anonymous poems — an anonymous poem never shows its author to readers in search, and organization staff judging open calls see anonymous entries without a byline.
  • Reading gates — only someone who can open a poem can react to it, and lists never show a reader anything they couldn't open.
  • Security refresh — the web app's framework was updated to patch a critical advisory, and other dependency advisories were cleared.
  • Search maintenance — rebuilding the search index is now restricted to Stanza's internal systems. Previously, any signed-in account could trigger it.
  • Update prompts — if your app is too old to keep working, Stanza says so and offers the update, instead of failing at sign-in.
  • Readability — red warning and delete text is readable in dark mode, and controls on a poem's own background use readable ink.
  • Stability — fixed a blank Community page after resizing, and the window no longer loses your page when it's resized.
