When you cheer a poem, write a reply, add something to a list or follow a poet, other people may see that it was you: in activity feeds, in "who reacted" lists and in notifications. Who sees what you do lets you decide, one kind of activity at a time.
Where to find it
Go to Settings › Privacy › Who sees what you do. As it says: Choose who can see that it was you. Counts never change; hidden readers are still counted, as "and N others".
The four rows
- Reactions: Cheers, Encores and Tomatoes you give.
- Replies & margin notes: whether your replies show up in activity feeds and the reply list. Your replies always stay in the thread under the poem, because they're part of the conversation.
- Curation: reposts, quotes, list adds and lists you make. Only public lists can ever name you.
- Follows: the poets you follow and the circles you join.
The choices
Each row can be set to:
- Everyone: anyone can see that it was you.
- Followers: people who follow you see that it was you. Everyone else sees you counted.
- Friends: only people you follow back see that it was you.
- Only me: nobody sees that it was you. You're still counted.
Only me means only you. With Reactions set to Only me, not even the poet sees your name. They see the count, and a notification that says "Someone cheered your poem".
The poet sees who responded to their own work. When you cheer, reply to, list or repost someone’s poem, list or episode, the person who made it sees your name, whatever audience you have chosen for that kind of activity, unless it is set to Only me. Blocks and Keep my tomatoes to myself still apply. Your audience setting decides who else sees it, in feeds and name lists.
Reposts, quotes and list adds you make can also appear in the Feed tab of your profile, to the people your Curation setting allows.
Set all four
The top row, Set all four, changes every row at once and is your overall setting. You can then narrow individual rows. A row can only be narrower than your overall setting; options wider than it are greyed out with a short explanation. To open one row wider, choose that value in Set all four, then narrow the others. When the rows differ, Set all four shows Mixed.
Keep my tomatoes to myself
Tomatoes are never named publicly. Normally the poet can see who threw one if they have Stanza Pro. Turn on Keep my tomatoes to myself and not even the poet sees it was you; they see only the count. If your Reactions row is already Only me, this is covered automatically ("Already covered").
What others see
Not sure how your settings look from the outside? Choose What others see to preview your activity as a stranger, a follower, a friend and the poet would see it. Rows are marked "Sees it was you" or "Can't see it was you", and you can compare two viewers side by side.
What stays the same
- Counts: everyone sees the same totals, however your rows are set.
- Your replies in their thread: a letter you write always appears under the poem.
- Follow requests: a request always names you, because nobody can approve someone they can't see.
- Saves: always private, whatever you choose here.
- Tomatoes in feeds: a tomato you throw never appears in anyone else's activity feed.
Reading activity
Show reading activity, in the Reading section just below, is a separate switch that decides whether others can see what you've recently read.
Open What others see after you change a row. It's the quickest way to check that your settings do what you meant.
Who can see your replies
Each reply has its own audience. Set your default in Settings, Privacy, "Who can see my replies" (Public, Followers, Friends or Only me), or choose for a single reply with the audience chip in the reply box. To change a reply you already posted, open its menu and choose who can see it.
- Hidden replies: people outside a reply's audience do not see it, or any reply written under it. This includes the poet: an Only me reply is seen by you alone.
- Counts: the number of replies is the same for everyone. Readers who cannot see some of them get a short line at the end of the thread saying how many.
- Notifications: nobody is notified about a reply they cannot see.
