Notifications

Stay in the loop

Stanza lets you know when something happens that involves you or your work. Notifications appear in Alerts (the bell in the bottom bar or sidebar) and, if you allow them, as push notifications on your phone or computer.

What you'll hear about

• Conversation: letters to your poems, write-backs, margin notes, mentions and critiques.
• Reactions: Cheers and Tomatoes on your work, lists and profile.
• Encores: when someone gives your work an Encore. These have their own setting because they're rare.
• Social: new followers, follow requests and friends.
• New work: new poems and episodes from people you follow.
• Circles and lists: circle invitations and activity, and when someone adds your work to a list.
• Milestones: badges you've earned and other milestones.
• Organizations and open calls, where you take part.
• Account and safety: receipts for reports you filed, content-warning notices, and important account and safety messages.
• Announcements: news from Stanza. Important legal or safety notices always reach you.

When a notification doesn't name someone

Readers choose who can see their activity. If someone cheered your poem but keeps their reactions hidden from you, you'll see "Someone cheered your poem". You're still told it happened; their name just isn't shared. A follow request always names the person, so you know who you're approving.

The Alerts page

• Mark all as read clears your unread count.
• Filter by category (Reactions, Social, Circles, Lists and more), by read or unread status, or by date.
• Announcements have their own section. You can fold it away, or choose Show, Only or Hide. Important notices are always shown.

Choosing what reaches you

Open Settings › Notifications:

• Each kind of notification has its own Push and In-App switches. Push controls alerts on your device; In-App controls whether it appears in Alerts.
• Profile filters let you customise notifications from specific people.
• Email Digest sends a summary on a schedule: Off, Daily, Weekly, Every 2 weeks or Monthly. You can choose whether to get it even when nothing's new.

Email notifications are part of the paid plans; push and in-app notifications are free for everyone.

On your phone

Your phone's own settings can also quiet Stanza. On Android, notifications are grouped into channels by how much attention they need, so you can mute one kind without silencing another. See "Notification Channels and Quieting One Kind".

Each profile hears for itself

Notifications go to the profile they're about. Switching profiles switches whose alerts you're looking at.
