StanzaHelp Center

Every Monday at 12:00 UTC Stanza opens a new writing prompt: one line to write toward, for anyone who wants it. Nothing is required, there are no rankings and there is no leaderboard.

Where you will see it

  • A prompt card appears in your feed, in the format of the screen you are on. At most one card like it appears per screenful, and you can dismiss it; the dismissal is remembered for that prompt on this device.
  • On Discover, the prompt sits above the shelves. Its page lists the poems written for it.
  • If you want a note when a prompt opens, turn it on under Settings › Notifications › Reading. It is off for push by default.

Writing to a prompt

Linking a poem to a prompt is a setting on the poem, so you can add or remove it after publishing, even once the settling period has ended. Only open prompts can be chosen: a prompt that has not started or has been withdrawn cannot, but past prompts stay open. A poem written for the prompt shows the prompt’s line while that prompt is current.

The prompt page

  • Poems are listed first-written during the week, newest first afterwards; you can switch the order.
  • A poem written after the week is listed under Written later and does not count toward the week.
  • You only see poems you are allowed to open. Privacy, circles, blocks, age rules, your Hide poems choices and anonymous posting all apply, so the count is what you can open.

All ages

Every prompt is written to be answerable by everyone, including readers under 18.
