The Spoken Word Studio

Access the spoken word composer at /compose/spoken. Stanza treats audio poetry as a first-class medium.

Recording in Your Browser

Click the record button to use your browser microphone. While recording, you will see:

  • Real-time waveform visualization — See your audio as you speak
  • Volume meter — Monitor your recording level
  • Elapsed time counter — Track how long you have been recording

After recording, preview your audio before publishing. Re-record if you want a better take.

Uploading Audio Files

Already have a recording? Upload it directly. Supported formats:

  • m4a, mp3, wav, webm, ogg, aac, flac

Transcript

Optionally add a written transcript alongside your audio. This gives readers a text version to follow along with your performance.

You can also enable the Speech-to-Text toggle to automatically generate a transcript from your recording.

Same Options as Text

Spoken word submissions have all the same metadata options as text: title, poetic form, style, tags, privacy level, presentation settings, and permission toggles.

tip

For the best recording quality, use a quiet room and speak close to your microphone. External USB microphones produce better results than built-in laptop mics.
