If you usually share with the same audience, set a default and every new poem or list starts with it. You can still change the audience for any single piece.
The options
Defaults use the same four choices on every device:
- Public: anyone, including people without an account.
- Followers: people who follow you.
- Friends: followers you follow back.
- Private: only you.
Groups (a circle) can't be a default, because a circle post needs a particular circle. Choose the circle when you write the post.
Setting your defaults
On the web
Go to Settings › Account › Content Defaults and set:
- Default submission visibility: who can see new poems.
- Default list privacy: who can see new lists.
In the app
Go to Settings › Privacy for Default submission visibility, or Settings › Account for both defaults.
Defaults belong to the profile you're using, so each persona can have its own.
How it works in the composer
- When you start a new poem, the privacy choice is already filled in with your default.
- Change it for this poem whenever you like; your default stays the same.
- The composer's Private option is labelled "Only me" and matches a Private default.
- If you restore a saved draft, the draft keeps the privacy it had.
- Posting into a circle keeps that circle, whatever your default.
New lists
The new-list screen fills in your default list privacy in the same way. If you've never set one, new lists start as Private, so nothing is shared before you decide.
If you haven't set a default
New poems start as Public and new lists as Private.
Things to know
- Defaults only affect new work. Changing a default never changes poems or lists you've already published. Change those one by one from their settings.
- Safe when unsure. If Stanza can't read your default for any reason, a new poem starts as Private, never Public. A poem that's wrongly private can be opened up; one that's wrongly public can't be unseen.
- Scheduled poems use whatever privacy you chose when you scheduled them.
Workshopping new drafts with a small group? Set your default to Friends, and switch individual finished pieces to Public when they're ready.
