Why scarcity matters
An Encore is Stanza's strongest reaction, and it's deliberately limited. Think of a standing ovation at a reading: you wouldn't give one for every performance, which is exactly why it means something when you do. When a poet receives an Encore, they know someone chose to spend one of only a few that month on their work.
How many you get
Your monthly allowance depends on your plan:
- Free: 8 Encores a month.
- Plus: 8 Encores a month.
- Pro: 15 Encores a month.
- Organization profiles: 15 a month per profile when the organization is on the paid Organizations plan.
Each profile has its own budget. If you have more than one profile, each one gets its own allowance.
From time to time, Stanza staff may grant extra Encores, for example to thank someone or for a community event. A grant applies straight away.
How the budget works
- Your allowance renews at the start of each calendar month, at midnight UTC. Depending on where you live, that may be the evening of the last day of the month or the morning of the first.
- Each Encore you give uses one from the budget.
- The Encore button shows how many you have left.
- At zero, the button is disabled and you'll see "You've used all your Encores this month" until your budget renews.
- Unused Encores don't carry over to the next month.
Removing an Encore doesn't refund it
If you take an Encore back, it isn't returned to your budget. Once it's spent, it's spent. Stanza asks you to confirm before you remove one ("Remove Encore?"), so you can choose Keep Encore instead.
Checking your budget
Press and hold (or hover over) the Encore button to see your budget, for example "3 of 8 left · resets" followed by the date.
What you can give Encores to
Poems and podcast episodes. Encores aren't available on replies, margin notes, lists or poets, so they stay a mark for creative work.
Upgrading mid-month
If you move to Pro during a month, your higher allowance applies to that month straight away. Encores you've already used still count.
Keep a mental shortlist of the poems that stayed with you this month. Encores feel best spent on the ones you're still thinking about days later.
