Reactions aren't just for poems. You can also respond to a list someone has curated, a podcast episode, and the poet themself. Each takes the reactions that make sense for it.
At a glance
- Poems: Cheer, Encore, Tomato.
- Podcast episodes: Cheer, Encore, Tomato.
- Lists: Cheer and Tomato. No Encore.
- Poets: Cheer only.
- Replies and margin notes: Cheer and Tomato.
A reaction that doesn't apply simply isn't there. A list has no Encore button at all, rather than a greyed-out one.
Lists
A cheer on a list is a cheer for the curation: the choosing, and the order. Encores are kept for creative work, so lists don't take them.
- The curator is notified when someone cheers or throws a tomato at their list (never for reactions to your own list).
- List cards show the cheer count. Tomatoes aren't shown on cards.
- Only the curator can ever see who threw a tomato at a list, and only with Stanza Pro.
Podcast episodes
Episodes take all three reactions. An Encore on an episode is the same scarce mark as on a poem: it uses one from your monthly budget. Episode rows show applause (cheers and encores together), never tomatoes. Only the host can see who threw a tomato, and only with Stanza Pro.
Poets
On a poet's profile, the Cheer button is a cheer for them as a poet, not for any one poem. The poet gets a notification: "A cheer for you as a poet."
- A profile takes Cheer only. There's no Tomato on a person.
- You can't cheer yourself, so the button doesn't appear on your own profile.
- On poet cards (search results, suggested poets, a circle's members), the cheer appears as a small glyph and count. Tap to cheer; press and hold to see who cheered.
- Cheering a poet doesn't affect how their poems rank.
Seeing who reacted
Press and hold a reaction on a list, episode or profile to open the list of who reacted, within each reader's own privacy choices. See "Who Reacted: Interaction Lists".
Your reactions and your privacy
Reactions on lists, episodes and poets follow the same Reactions setting under Settings › Privacy › Who sees what you do as reactions on poems. If you've hidden your reactions from someone, their notification says "Someone".
When you can't react
You can only react to things you can open. A private list, an unpublished episode, or a poet who has blocked you (or whom you've blocked) can't be reacted to. Taking a reaction back is always possible.
Found a list that introduced you to a new favourite poet? Cheer the list and the poet. Curators love knowing their choices landed.
