Lists can hold far more than poems. Curate a memorable exchange of letters, a run of podcast episodes, the replay of a live reading, or even other people's lists, and play audio and video right in the list.

What you can add

  • Poems and poets.
  • Replies and margin notes: a list row shows "Reply" or "Margin note · line 4", with the poem it belongs to.
  • Podcast episodes and podcasts.
  • Live performances: a list holds the replay once the performance has ended.
  • Other lists: a public list can sit inside your list.
  • Critiques, circles, organizations and open calls.

To add any of them, open its ⋯ menu and choose Add to a list… (for a list, Add this list to a list…).

The author decides

Every kind of authored work carries its author's consent:

  • Poems: the poet, through Open to reading lists in the poem's settings.
  • Replies and margin notes: the writer, from their reply's ⋯ menu ("Others can add this reply to their lists").
  • Episodes: the host, in the episode's settings.
  • Live performances: the performer, in the performance's settings. This switch still works after the performance ends, because a list holds the replay.
  • Lists: the curator, in the list's settings. Only a public list can be added anywhere; a private list is never offered.

One account default covers all of them: Settings › Privacy › Let others add my work to lists. It applies to new pieces; things you've already published keep their own setting. Turning consent off stops new additions only. Lists that already hold the piece keep it.

If the author has said no, Add to a list… shows as unavailable with the reason, for example "Ada isn't accepting list additions for this episode". You can always add your own work.

Lists inside lists

  • A list can't contain itself, directly or through another list. The picker shows those lists disabled, with "Already inside… this would loop".
  • A list inside a list appears as a summary: its title, its curator and how many items it has. Open it to see inside.

Playing in the row

You don't have to leave the list to listen or watch:

  • Episodes play in the row with the episode's own audio player.
  • Live replays play in the row in Stanza's video player. A performance with no recording shows No recording and links to its page instead.
  • Press Play on a row to start it; press it again to close. Tap the title to open the full page.
  • One row plays at a time. Starting another stops the first, and nothing in a list starts playing by itself.

What readers see

  • A row only shows what the reader is allowed to open. A reply on a poem they can't see shows as unavailable, with no content.
  • An anonymous poem's poet stays hidden, including on replies to it.
  • Deleted or private items show a short "no longer available" note.

Curating a reading series? Put each live replay alongside the poems that were read, so listeners can follow along with the text.
