Adding Items to Lists

Add from anywhere

On most things you can read on Stanza (a poem, a reply, a podcast episode, a live performance, a poet, or another list), open the ⋯ menu and choose Add to a list….

1. Choose Add to a list…. The picker shows which item you're adding.
2. Tick one or more of your lists. Lists that already hold the item are marked already added.
3. Need a new one? Choose New list, name it, and the item goes straight in.
4. Choose Done.

Add to a list vs Save

In a poem's ⋯ menu, Save sits directly above Add to a list…, and the two do different things:

• Save: private, only you can see your saves. See "Saving Poems and Poets".
• Add to a list…: curation. Public lists show your name.

When you can't add something

Sometimes Add to a list… is unavailable. It's always for a reason, and the menu tells you which:

• The author has closed it to lists. Poets, hosts and performers decide whether others may add their work to lists ("The poet isn't accepting list additions"). You can always add your own work.
• It would make a loop. A list can't contain itself, directly or through another list. The picker shows those lists greyed out with the reason.
• It's a live stream. A list holds the replay once the performance has ended, not the live broadcast.

The author is told

When you add someone's piece to a list, they get a notification. If your curation activity is hidden from them (see "Who Sees What You Do"), it won't name you.

Managing what's in a list

From the list's own page:

• Reorder: use the reorder option to arrange items in the order you want readers to meet them.
• Remove: take an item out of the list ("Remove from list?").
• Edit: change the title, description, privacy or cover.
• Delete: delete the list and everything in it. This can't be undone.

When items become unavailable

If a poem is deleted, or its poet narrows who can read it, it shows as unavailable to readers who can no longer open it. A list never shows anyone something they couldn't open on its own. You can remove unavailable items whenever you like.

Adding for others

If someone has shared a list with you with Add permission, you can add items to it too. See "Sharing Lists".
