Joining a Circle

Every circle has a door. How you get through it depends on how the circle's owner has set it up.

Finding circles

• Browse: open Circles to see circles in the directory. Only circles that have chosen to be discoverable are listed.
• Be invited: a circle admin can invite you directly. Invitations appear under Invitations in Circles, and you are notified when one arrives.
• Follow a link: a member may share a link to a circle with you.

The door page

Before you are a member, opening a circle shows its door: what the circle is about, how to get in, and your current status — for example, whether you have been invited or are waiting for approval. Its posts stay hidden until you are inside.

Getting in

If you were invited

Choose Accept on the invitation — in Circles under Invitations, or on the circle's door. You join straight away. Choose Decline if you would rather not.

If the circle uses approval

Choose Knock. Your request goes to the circle's admins, and the door shows "You've knocked" while you wait. When an admin lets you in, you are notified: "You've been accepted into" the circle.

If the circle uses a password

Enter the password when the door asks "What's the password?". If it is right, you are in immediately.

If the circle uses both

Enter the password, then wait for an admin to approve your request.

Once you are a member

You can read and react to everything posted in the circle, and post to it yourself by choosing Inner Circle as a poem's visibility. When you join, the circle's other members are told that you have joined.

Leaving a circle

Open the circle, choose Leave, and confirm. Before you do, check whether the circle uses Ban on leave — if it does, you will not be able to rejoin later.

Poems you posted to the circle remain yours. Circle admins can also remove members; if the circle bans on leave, that removal is permanent too.
