Creating Your Account

Sign up

You can create a Stanza account in a few ways:

• Email and password: enter your email and choose a password of at least 8 characters. We send a confirmation link, so check your inbox (and your spam folder) and click it to verify your account.
• Continue with Google: sign up in one step with your Google account.
• Sign in with Apple: available where Apple sign-in is offered.

Once you have an account, you can also sign in without a password: choose Sign in with magic link and we'll email you a one-time link.

Your birth year and month

Stanza asks for your birth year and month when you join. Both are required. We never ask for your exact birth date, and we store only the year and month, encrypted.

• You must be 13 or older to join.
• Members under 18 get some extra protections. For example, certain mature content is hidden from them, and ads they see are never personalised.
• Made a mistake? You can correct your age once within 30 days of first setting it. After that, you can ask for a change from Settings › Account, and a moderator will review your request.

Create your first profile

Next, you'll create your first profile. This is the identity readers see.

1. @username: 3–30 characters, using lowercase letters, numbers and underscores. It must be unique, and you can't change it later from your settings, so choose with care.
2. Display name: the name shown on your poems and profile. Up to 100 characters, and you can change it any time.
3. Bio: up to 500 characters about you and your writing.
4. Profile picture: optional. You can add or change it later.

To give your Stage a head start, tell Stanza which forms, styles and themes you enjoy under Settings › Stage › Interests.

More than one profile

One account can hold up to 3 profiles. Each one has its own username, followers, poems, lists and circles. Add more from the More menu: open Switch profile, then choose Add or manage profiles. See "Multiple Profiles (Personas)" for more.

Keep your account safe

In Settings › Account you can turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app and keep a set of backup codes somewhere safe.
