A confection is a small gift you send to someone on Stanza — a personal message, wrapped with something you want to share: a poem, a list, a poet, or applause during a live performance. Think of it as passing someone a poem across the table with a note tucked inside.
What you can wrap
- A poem — share a piece that made you think of someone.
- A list — send a whole collection, like a reading list for a friend.
- A poet — introduce someone to a poet whose work they should know.
- A live performance — send a gift to the performer while they are live.
- Just a message — a confection can also be a message on its own.
Sending a confection
You can start a confection from several places:
- From a poem or list: open its options menu and choose Send a confection.
- From a poet's profile: open the profile's menu and choose Send as a confection.
- From Confectionaries: open Confectionaries in the Library and choose Send a confection.
Then, in the Send Confection sheet:
- Add recipients. Search for members by name, or enter an email address for someone who is not on Stanza yet. You can send one confection to up to 20 people at once.
- Write a message (optional). Add a written note, or record an audio message.
- Choose a theme for how the confection is wrapped.
- Send.
People who are not on Stanza receive an email with a link to open the confection.
You cannot send a confection to yourself, and confections are never delivered between people who have blocked each other. When you wrap a poet, that poet is not added as a recipient.
Gifts during a live performance
When a performer has Gifting turned on, viewers can choose Send a gift while the performance is live. The gift always goes to the performer.
Receiving confections
Everything you have been sent is in Confectionaries, under Received. Open a confection to read or listen to the message and see what was wrapped inside. You can reply with text or audio, and react to it.
Under Sent, you can see the confections you have sent and whether each has been opened yet.
Shareable links
When sending, you can choose Create shareable link to get a link to the confection. Links can be set to expire. A shared copy shows what was wrapped, but your personal message is not included.
Deleting
If you delete a confection you received, it disappears for you only. If you delete one you sent, it is removed for everyone.
Notifications
You are notified when someone sends you a confection, and when a confection you sent is opened. You can change these under Settings › Notifications, in the Confections group. On Android, they arrive on their own Confections notification channel.
A confection is personal. A line or two about *why* you thought of someone makes the poem inside land far more softly.
