Yes. Spoken word is a first-class medium on Stanza, not an attachment. You can record a piece directly in the app or upload a recording you already have.
Recording in the app
The composer has a built-in recorder. While you record you see a live waveform and a volume meter, so you can check your levels before you commit. Record, listen back, and re-record until you are happy with it.
Uploading a recording
If you recorded elsewhere, upload the file instead. Stanza accepts the common audio formats:
- MP3
- M4A / MP4 audio
- WAV
- OGG
- WebM
- AAC
- FLAC
Audio files can be up to 100 MB. Some plans allow longer recordings than others; if a recording is over your plan's length limit, Stanza tells you before you publish.
Transcripts
A transcript makes your piece accessible to readers who are deaf or hard of hearing, and to anyone who prefers to read along.
- Write your own: add the text in the Transcript (optional) field.
- Use speech-to-text: turn on automatic transcription and Stanza will generate one for you. Processing can take a few minutes after you publish before the transcript appears.
You can also switch speech-to-text on later for a piece you have already published.
Reactions and critiques
Readers react to spoken pieces just as they do to written ones, and critics can score spoken-word dimensions such as Delivery, Rhythm and Stage Presence, pointing at exact moments in the recording.
Record somewhere soft — a room with curtains, rugs or a closet full of clothes — to cut echo. Keep the microphone a hand's width from your mouth.
