Your Age on Stanza

When you join Stanza, we ask for your birth year and birth month. This article explains why, what we do with them, and how to fix a mistake.

Why we ask

• To keep children under 13 off Stanza. Stanza is for people aged 13 and over. If the date you give makes you younger than 13, you cannot create an account.
• To protect members under 18. Some content and features are handled differently for younger members (see below).

Both fields are required. Your age is used for age checks only.

How we protect it

We only ask for your birth year and month — never your full date of birth. Both are encrypted when stored, and they are never shown on your profile or to other members.

What changes for members under 18

• Content warnings. Members under 18 do not see mature content, and cannot publish work tagged Sexual Themes or Violence.
• Ads are never personalised for members under 18, whatever their settings.
• Marketing email is not available to members under 18.
• Announcements. Members under 18 receive only important legal and safety notices from Stanza, not general announcements.

If your account does not have an age yet

Accounts created before we started asking will see Confirm your age. You only need to do this once. Older accounts have a grace period, shown in a banner, to add their age. After that, the account becomes read-only — you can still read, but cannot post — until you add your birth year.

Correcting your age

Within your first 30 days

You can correct your birth year and month once, yourself, within 30 days of creating your account. Do it from your account settings.

After that

After the 30-day window, changes go through a request:

1. In your account settings, choose Request age change.
2. Enter the corrected details and a reason.
3. Submit. A member of our moderation team reviews it.

You will be notified of the decision. You can only have one request waiting at a time.
