You decide how Stanza uses your information. This article covers downloading your data, the email and advertising choices you can make, and the protections in place for younger members.
Getting a copy of your data
You can download what Stanza holds about you from Settings › Account › Data Export. Choose:
- Simple Export — your account email, your birth year and month, your profiles and your poems.
- Full Export — everything in the simple export, plus your replies, reactions, follows, settings and saves.
Your export is prepared in the background as a single file. When it is ready, download it from the export list on the same page. Download links are available for a limited time, so save the file once it is ready. You can request one export at a time, once every 24 hours.
For any other request about your personal data, write to privacy@stanza.ink.
Email from Stanza
Marketing email is opt-in. Go to Settings › Privacy › Your Privacy Choices and find Email from Stanza:
- Account and safety email is always on — these are messages about your account that we have to send.
- News and features is off unless you turn it on.
Your inbox belongs to you, not to a profile, so this choice applies to every profile on your account. Every marketing email also contains an unsubscribe link. Accepting cookies never signs you up for marketing email.
Personalized ads
Ads help keep Stanza free. By default, the ads you see are not personalised: everyone sees the same kinds of ads, regardless of what they do on Stanza.
If you would like ads tailored to you, turn on Personalized ads in Settings › Privacy — "Allow ads to be tailored to you. When off, you still see the same ads, just not personalized." The setting is per profile and is off by default.
There is no setting to turn ads off altogether; the way to go ad-free is Stanza Pro.
Do Not Sell or Share
Personalised advertising can count as "sharing" personal information under some privacy laws. On the web, the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page (linked in the site footer) lets you opt out on your device and turn off personalised ads for your account. Stanza also honours the Global Privacy Control signal from browsers that send it.
Cookies
When you first visit Stanza on the web, the Your Privacy Choices banner lets you Accept All, Reject Optional or Manage Preferences. Analytics cookies stay off until you allow them.
Members under 18
- Ads are never personalised for members under 18, whatever the setting says.
- Marketing email is not available to members under 18.
- Your birth year and month are stored encrypted and used only for age checks.
