Stanza sends many kinds of notifications — replies, reactions, new followers, open-call reminders, safety notices. Not all of them deserve the same urgency, so we sort them by the kind of attention they need, not by which feature sent them. That way you can quiet one kind without accidentally silencing something more important.
Controlling notifications inside Stanza
Open Settings › Notifications. Notifications are grouped (for example Social, Content, Circles, Lists, Confections, Podcasts, Milestones, Organizations and Account & Safety), and each type has its own Push and In-App switches.
- Push controls the notification on your phone or computer.
- In-App controls whether it appears in Alerts.
- Email is available for some groups. Email notifications are a paid-plan feature; push and in-app notifications are free for everyone.
You can also set an Email Digest — Off, Daily, Weekly, Every 2 weeks or Monthly.
Android: notification channels
On Android, Stanza's notifications arrive on separate channels. Each channel has its own importance, and you can change or mute any of them in Android's settings without touching the others.
- Conversation — replies, mentions and critique requests.
- Reactions — Cheers, Tomatoes and other reactions (quiet).
- Encores — when someone gives your work an Encore.
- Social — new followers, follow requests and friends.
- New Work — new poems and episodes from people you follow (quiet).
- Milestones — badges and milestones (quiet).
- Circles and Lists — activity in your circles and lists (quiet).
- Confections — confections sent to you, and when yours are opened.
- Organizations — invitations and decisions from organizations.
- Open Calls — new calls and deadline reminders (quiet).
- Account — your subscription, age-change decisions, content-warning notices and receipts for reports you filed.
- Announcements — news and surveys from Stanza (quiet).
- Safety — strikes, suspensions, appeal outcomes and copyright notices (high priority).
Muting one channel on Android
- Open your phone's Settings and go to Apps, then Stanza, then Notifications (the exact names vary a little by phone).
- Tap the channel you want to change — for example Reactions.
- Turn it off, or make it silent.
Because each channel only carries one level of urgency, muting Reactions never silences Safety, and muting Milestones never silences your letters in Conversation.
iPhone and iPad
iOS does not have channels, but Stanza marks each notification with how urgent it is. Quiet kinds — such as reactions, new work and milestones — are delivered silently to Notification Center. Safety notices and important legal or safety announcements are marked time-sensitive, so they can reach you during Focus. Use the switches in Settings › Notifications inside Stanza to turn individual types off.
Announcements and important notices
Stanza sometimes sends announcements — news, new features or surveys. Turn them off under From Stanza › Announcements. Announcements arrive as push and in-app notifications only, never by email.
Important legal or safety notices are always delivered, even when announcements are off. They cannot be dismissed from Alerts, and they stay there after you have read them.
Members under 18 receive only these important legal and safety notices, not general announcements.
