StanzaHelp Center

Your Stanza account holds your work, your profiles and your conversations. A few minutes of setup makes it far harder for anyone else to get in.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a second code from an authenticator app whenever you sign in, so a stolen password alone is not enough.

Turning it on

  1. Install an authenticator app on your phone, if you do not already have one.
  2. In Stanza, open Settings, then your account settings, and choose Security ("Manage linked providers and two-factor authentication.").
  3. Under Two-Factor Authentication, choose to enable it.
  4. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (or type in the manual setup key), then enter the 6-digit code it shows.

Backup codes

When you turn on 2FA, Stanza gives you 8 backup codes. Each can be used once to sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app.

  • Save them somewhere safe and separate from your phone — a password manager is ideal.
  • You can regenerate them at any time; the old set stops working.
  • At sign-in, choose Use backup code instead to use one.
warning

Signing in with a backup code switches two-factor authentication off and clears your remaining codes. Set 2FA up again straight away afterwards.

Turning it off

Choose Disable 2FA in the Security section. You will need a current code from your authenticator app to confirm.

Sign-in limits

To stop people guessing passwords, Stanza limits repeated failed sign-ins:

  • After a few failed attempts, you will be asked to complete a captcha.
  • After several more, sign-in is paused for a while: "Too many login attempts. Please try again later."
  • Each further lockout lasts longer than the one before.

The pause lifts on its own once the time is up, and a successful sign-in resets the count. There is no need to contact us — just wait and try again, or reset your password.

Forgotten password

  1. On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot password?
  2. Enter your email and send the reset link. For your privacy, the reply looks the same whether or not the email has an account.
  3. Open the link and set a new password.

If the link has expired, request a new one. You can request a limited number of reset links per hour.

Signing in without a password

You can also choose Sign in with magic link to receive a one-time sign-in link by email.

Good habits

  • Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
  • Keep the email address on your account up to date — it is how you recover access.
  • Be wary of messages asking for your password or codes. Stanza will never ask for them.
tip

If you think someone else has got into your account, reset your password straight away, turn on two-factor authentication and contact us through Support.
